Early 19th C. A wealthy man, chorbadhzi Yordan, and his son return from a pilgrimage. They find the plague raging on Bulgarian lands. The villagers are frightened and famished. The Black Death brings out our innermost fears and recalls atavistic instincts for survival

DIRECTOR

Ivan Vladimirov graduated in Film and TV Directing from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in 2002. Currently he teaches Film and TV Directing at the Southwestern University “Neofit Rilski” and holds a PhD degree. His short film “Waltzes and Tangos from the Village of Whitewater” was in the international competition of Locarno IFF in 2007. His debut feature Sneakers (2011) co-directed with Valery Yordanov, was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film and Special Mention of Russian Film Clubs at IFF Moscow. The film was shown at a number of festivals among which Karlovy Vary East of the West competition and Mannheim-Heidelberg International Discoveries program. In 2020 his second film Scenes from the Life of an Actress won Special Jury Prize, Best Director and Best Screenplay award at the Golden Rose Festival.
